Three conservation institutions are competing to manage the Bandung Zoo in a tender process conducted by the Bandung city government. They are Jakarta-based Faunaland, Taman Safari Indonesia, and Gembira Loka from Yogyakarta. “Yes, namely Taman Safari Indonesia, Faunaland, and Gembira Loka,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan on Monday (8/6/2026). He stated that the tender process will be reopened with the three participants who have met the requirements. Farhan mentioned that the current tender is the final stage, and if it fails, the future management of Bandung Zoo remains uncertain. “I am quite nervous because I myself cannot view the documents directly. This is the last chance. If the tender fails again, I do not know what else to do,” he said. If the tender process fails, he stated he would report to the Ministry of Forestry to update them on developments. This includes reporting to West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi. “Later, the three of us will discuss the next steps regarding the management of the animals there,” he said. He said the tender committee involves several parties, including experts from the Ministry of Forestry and the West Java Provincial Forestry Service. They have competence in animal management aspects. “We in the city government are more focused on calculating and assessing the asset aspects,” he said. He added that the tender process is being conducted seriously, involving a large investment value. He mentioned that if there is a change in the bid figures from participants, the auction administration process must be restarted. Bandung Zoo has been closed for more than six months, and visitor operations are currently temporarily suspended. Animal care is being carried out by former employees of the Tamansari Wildlife Foundation.
