Three companies launch e-banking

JAKARTA (JP): Internet solutions provider PT Jatis Solutions, together with PT Microsoft Indonesia and Biznet launched on Wednesday a service to provide Internet banking applications to small and medium banks in Indonesia.

"Internet banking is slowly but surely becoming a basic service rather than a novelty in Indonesia," Jatis director Izak Jenie told reporters following the ceremony to launch the service.

Also present during the ceremony were Biznet's president Adi Kusma and Microsoft Indonesia's president Richard Kartawijaya.

He said that more and more customers expect Internet banking services, but smaller banks sometimes lack the funding and human resources to provide it.

"That is where we come in, providing Internet banking applications with a monthly fee," Izak said.

Interested banks are required to pay Jatis Rp 100 million as a fee for the construction of their websites as well as the installing of e-banking applications.

In addition, the banks are also obliged to pay an average Rp 35 million in monthly fees to Jatis depending on the features of the e-banking applications installed on their websites.

He said that the service was ideal for banks that have between 30,000 to 500,000 customers.

Three local banks have agreed to use Jatis' Internet banking application and their services were expected to be launched within the next two months, Izak said, but he declined to name them.

Jatis will provide and operate e-banking applications, while Biznet provides data storage and Microsoft basic platform for e- banking applications, Izak said.

The three have invested a total of US$1 million for the business, Kusma said, adding that they have targeted 20 bank customers during the first year of service.

Jatis has thus far provided Internet banking for large customers such as BCA, BII, Bank Universal and Bank Bali.(tnt)
