Three children die of diarrhea

SEMARANG: Three children have died and several dozen others
have been hospitalized in an outbreak of diarrhea in the Kebumen
regency, official sources said yesterday.

The provincial government said in a statement that a team of
medical personnel had been dispatched to four of the worst
stricken villages in the Gombong subdistrict.

The statement said that many of the patients admitted to
hospitals were already in a critical condition on arrival. The
people were brought to hospital only after traditional remedies,
administered at home, had failed to cure them, it said.

The Kebumen government is planning an information campaign to
improve people's awareness of the importance of cleanliness.
