Three Candidates Announced to Replace Constitutional Court Judge Anwar Usman
The Supreme Court (MA) has announced the results of its selection process for candidates to replace Constitutional Court (MK) Judge Anwar Usman, who will retire in December 2026.
Based on the results of written papers, decision annotations, and feasibility assessments and interviews conducted by the Open Selection Committee for Constitutional Court Judge candidates from the Indonesian Supreme Court for the 2026 budget year, the announcement conveyed the results of the selection of the three best participants based on the highest score rankings arranged alphabetically.
The three candidates for Constitutional Court Judge from the Supreme Court are:
Fahmiron (High Court Judge at the Denpasar High Court)
Liliek Prisbawono Adi (High Court Judge at the Medan High Court)
Marsudin Nainggolan (Chief of the North Kalimantan High Court)
The Supreme Court (MA) has established a selection committee to identify candidates to replace Constitutional Court Judge Anwar Usman, who will enter retirement at the end of 2026.
MA Supreme Court Chief Sunarto stated that the selection panel was signed approximately two months prior, chaired by Supreme Court Deputy Chief Suharto for Judicial Affairs and involving various stakeholders, including technocrats, community leaders, and academics from various universities.
The Supreme Court is committed to finding the best constitutional court judge. According to Sunarto, a judge must possess both knowledge and faith. Both aspects are considered vital and must be balanced.
“Knowledge without faith, as wise people say, is like a lamp in the hands of a thief, but faith alone without knowledge is like a lamp in the hands of a baby,” said Sunarto.
According to Sunarto, assigning office to someone who knows nothing poses a risk, as does assigning office to someone who is intelligent but lacks faith.
“The panel has been operating and involves academics from several universities and community leaders, so I hope that the candidates or nominations proposed by the MA will be among the best sons and daughters of the MA,” he said.
Anwar Usman is a constitutional court judge nominated by the MA. He was born in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, on 31 December 1956. This year, the former Constitutional Court Chief is 69 years old.
