Three Beggars Arrested in Karawang, Two Others Remain at Large
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Karawang Police Resort (Polresta Karawang) has uncovered a robbery case on Jalan Cilutung, Sukasari Village, Cibuaya District, Karawang Regency. Three suspects have been detained, whilst two others remain on the wanted list (DPO) and are still being pursued by officers.
Karawang Police Chief Commissioner Mario Prahatinto explained that the uncovering of the case was the result of swift work by the Resmob Jatanras Unit of the Polresta Karawang Criminal Investigation Directorate.
Armed with crime scene analysis, witness statements, and field data and information analysis, officers successfully identified the perpetrators before carrying out arrests in stages.
The robbery occurred on Wednesday, 1 July 2026 at around 05:00 WIB. The victim, identified as Romli, a casual daily labourer, was on his way to work in East Karawang on a Honda Beat motorcycle.
As he passed along Jalan Cilutung, the victim was intercepted by a group of perpetrators who arrived on several motorcycles, before one of them threatened him with a sharp weapon and seized his vehicle along with his valuables.
In addition to making off with the Honda Beat motorcycle, the perpetrators also took the victim’s wallet, which contained his identity card (KTP), tax number (NPWP), ATM card, vehicle registration (STNK), and mobile phone.
“As a result of the incident, the victim suffered losses of around Rp15 million and immediately reported the event to the police for follow-up,” said the Karawang Police Chief on Wednesday (29/7).
After intensive investigation, officers secured the first suspect, Bayu Pangestu Hermawan, on Monday, 27 July 2026 at a rented house in West Karawang. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement in the robbery, prompting investigators to pursue the other perpetrators involved.
Later the same day, officers arrested Oktariandi Maulana Putra at his residence in Jayakerta District. Subsequently, in the early hours of Tuesday, officers secured Warta, who is suspected of acting as a fence for the stolen motorcycle.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, identified by their initials as Oman and Badar, managed to escape and remain at large, pursued by the Resmob Team of the Polresta Karawang Criminal Investigation Directorate.
From the operation, police seized as evidence one red Honda PCX motorcycle used in the commission of the crime, as well as a replica pistol used by the perpetrator to threaten the victim.
Evidence still being sought includes a machete and the victim’s Honda Beat motorcycle, which is believed to have changed hands after being sold by the perpetrators.
The Police Chief affirmed that the pursuit of the fugitive suspects would continue, alongside efforts to trace the whereabouts of the evidence not yet recovered.
