Three arrested for drug possession

JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested three men for allegedly possessing 2.05 kilograms of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) worth more than Rp 71 million (US$7,552) in two separate places in the city, city police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam said on Tuesday.

Anton said the three men were arrested on Monday night, with two of them, identified as Aripin, 26, and Zainudin, 25, nabbed on Jl. Teluk Gong, North Jakarta, and the other, identified as Parnauli Siahaan, apprehended on Jl. Anggur, Tanjung Utara, West Jakarta.

Aripin and Zainuddin were arrested when they reportedly offered two kilograms of the drug to an undercover police officer disguised as a buyer at 10 p.m.

A team of police officers hiding near the scene quickly arrested them after receiving a signal from the undercover officer that the drug was shabu-shabu

Police are still questioning the suspects about their supplier.

Meanwhile, a police patrol arrested Parnauli at 8:30 p.m. for allegedly having 50 grams of shabu-shabu in his possession.

Police officers reportedly found the drugs inside Parnauli's jeans pocket during a body search.

The suspects will be charged with violating Article 60 of the 1997 Law on psychotropic substances, which carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in jail and Rp 200 million fine. (jun)
