Three Areas in NTT Isolated by Earthquake Now Accessible
East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko said his personnel have succeeded in opening access to three areas on Flores Island, NTT, which had been isolated due to the earthquake and landslides. Inspector General Rudi said that once access was opened, personnel immediately distributed aid and evacuated residents in need of assistance.
“The three areas that were isolated have now had their access opened, because previously there were landslides,” the police chief said, as reported by Antara on Monday (17/8/2026). Inspector General Rudi was responding to questions regarding efforts by the National Police and related parties to open isolated routes in the earthquake-affected areas.
The three areas that were isolated and have now had access reopened are North Lamba Leda District in East Manggarai Regency, the Reo area in Manggarai Regency, and Dimpong Village, North Rahong District, Manggarai Regency.
In North Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai Regency, police personnel found residents in urgent need of assistance. Personnel also evacuated a pregnant woman who was experiencing bleeding due to premature labour.
“Alhamdulillah, she was able to be evacuated and taken to hospital. Alhamdulillah, she was able to be saved,” the police chief said.
In the Reo area of Manggarai Regency, the Manggarai Police Chief and personnel opened access to the previously isolated area. After successfully entering, officers distributed aid and set up emergency response posts and tents for affected communities.
Meanwhile, access to Dimpong Village, North Rahong District, Manggarai Regency was also successfully breached. Information about the condition of isolated residents in the area was initially received through social media. The NTT Regional Police then responded to the report and dispatched Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to the location.
“Alhamdulillah, they were able to evacuate the isolated residents there who had not yet received aid. Alhamdulillah, they have been evacuated by Brimob,” the police chief said.
Inspector General Rudi said that the successful access to the three areas demonstrates the importance of speed in responding to public reports. He said that his team is still distributing aid to a number of areas that have not yet received assistance.
Inspector General Rudi expressed hope that the public would promptly report any other earthquake victims, particularly those who have not yet received aid, so that they can be recorded and receive assistance immediately.
