Threatens Iran, Trump Claims Ignorance of Israel's Attack on South Pars Gas Field
US President Donald Trump has claimed ignorance of his ally Israel’s attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field. However, Trump threatened to massively destroy Iran’s largest gas field if the country continues to attack Qatar in retaliation for the Israeli strike.
“Israel, angered by what has happened in the Middle East, has brutally attacked the major facility known as the South Pars Gas Field in Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, as reported by CNN on Thursday (19/3/2026).
“The United States was not aware of this specific attack,” he said, adding that Qatar was also unaware. “Unfortunately, Iran was not aware of this, or any important facts related to the South Pars attack, and unfairly and without reason attacked parts of Qatar’s LNG gas facilities.”
Trump stated that Israel would not attack the gas field again unless Iran strikes innocent parties, “in which case,” he said, “the United States, with or without the assistance or approval of Israel, will massively destroy the entire South Pars Gas Field with force and power unlike anything Iran has ever seen or witnessed before.”
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday (18/3) accused the US and Israel of targeting its oil and gas facilities, including the world’s largest natural gas field, South Pars.
Iran attacked Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, a major energy hub, with ballistic missiles hours after the previous attack, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Defence. State-owned QatarEnergy said the hub suffered severe damage from the strike.
As reported by Al Jazeera on Thursday (19/3), the UAE condemned Iran’s attack on the Habshan gas facilities and Bab oil field. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the “Iranian attack” targeting Habshan gas facilities and the Bab oil field constitutes a “dangerous escalation and violation of international law principles”.
The ministry said in a statement that they reserve the full right to take all necessary measures to protect their sovereignty and national security, and to preserve their national achievements.
The statement mentioned that UAE air defences successfully intercepted the attack, with no casualties recorded. It also emphasised that “targeting vital energy infrastructure poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy markets”.
