Threads Launches Music Sticker Feature in Indonesia

Meta has officially rolled out a new feature on Threads allowing users to add music to posts and replies. The feature, known as a music sticker, can be inserted directly into Threads posts and operates similarly to Instagram’s music stickers in Stories, Reels, or the feed. Users can share 30-second song clips via the music sticker, which appears directly on the Threads timeline with a play button, allowing others to listen without leaving the app. To use it, users simply tap the music icon (a musical note) when creating a new post, then search for songs from the available catalog. Meta offers various display options: album cover art, a combination of cover and lyrics, or just the song title and artist. Choosing the latter still allows adding photos or videos to the same post. The music feature is seen as part of Meta’s strategy to expand music-sharing within its app ecosystem. Over recent years, TikTok has been a key driver of new song popularity online, with many viral tracks emerging from user-generated short videos. Meta appears keen to replicate this experience on Threads. The company has partnered with music labels to support music features across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. With the music sticker, Meta aims to encourage users of the 2023 Twitter-like platform to share favourite songs, discuss music, and create new trends within the app. While not a major update like video or direct messaging, the music feature is expected to boost user engagement. Moreover, Threads has been actively promoted as a more dynamic, real-time conversation platform aligned with current trends. KompasTekno observed on Monday, 1 June 2026, that the music sticker icon is visible and functional on Android versions of Threads 431.0.0.48.81 in Indonesia. However, the rollout appears uneven, with some KompasTekno Threads accounts still not receiving the sticker feature.
