JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Ramadhan and Lebaran momentum this year is predicted to be one of the key periods for the used-car market in Indonesia. Despite a decline in new-car sales, public interest in used cars shows a positive trend. Based on OLX internal data, interest in used cars in January 2026 rose by around 6 percent compared with December 2025. Meanwhile, looking at Gainkindo data, new-car sales experienced a significant decline. This aligns with the growing need of the public for vehicles for mudik travel and social visits. “Although interest had dipped at the start of the year as people focused on celebrating Idul Fitri, the trend usually climbs again after Lebaran. In Lebaran 2025 period, interest in used cars on OLX and used-car sales on OLXmobbi both rose significantly a week after Lebaran,” he said in Ampera, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Saturday, 7 March 2026. He said the rise in demand and sales of used cars ahead of Lebaran was influenced by the distribution of THR (Tunjangan Hari Raya) for workers. Therefore, many are preparing comfortable vehicles for mudik and for silaturahmi with relatives during Lebaran. “This reflects the 2025 trend where the realised used-car sales on OLXmobbi rose 24 percent a week before Lebaran compared to the previous week,” he said.
