Thousands resettlers accepted in Fakfak
MANOKWARI, Irian Jaya: Fakfak Regent Suparlan Pasambuna said around 5,000 families of resettlers from some of the most densely populated islands, particularly Java, have so far been accepted in the region.
"We hope the resettlers, now living in the East Mimika and Kokas subdistricts, would help improve the region's economic situation and break the isolation of the remote region," Suparlan was quoted by Antara as saying.
"The newcomers have blended well with the locals, working together on the land," he said. (swe)
