The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has revealed a swelling in the number of service points for nutritional fulfilment (SPPG), or free nutritious meal (MBG) kitchens. Thousands of these wasteful SPPGs will be shut down if proven to be in violation.

“Currently, the total number of beneficiaries is 63 million, with the stipulation that a maximum of 3,000 kitchens (as they are rented for Rp 6 million), so only 21,000 SPPG kitchens are needed. In reality, the number of operational kitchens now is 27,877. That means an excess of 6,877 multiplied by Rp 6 million per day, meaning the state loses Rp 43 billion per day. Or, in one month, the state loses Rp 990 billion,” BGN Chief Nanik S Deyang told reporters on Friday (12/6/2026).

Nanik stated that her agency will temporarily halt the construction of new kitchens. BGN will also evaluate all SPPGs spread across Indonesia.

“That is why we are now temporarily stopping the construction of new kitchens. We are re-evaluating the currently operational 27,877 kitchens,” she said.

Furthermore, Nanik said her party will close SPPGs that do not comply with technical implementation guidelines. BGN will also cut the distribution of MBG to elite schools.

“We will reorganise, determining which ones comply with the technical guidelines and which SPPGs do not. We will terminate the contracts of those that do not comply with the technical guidelines,” she added.

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan previously revealed the swelling of thousands of SPPG points. The figure is a combination of MBG kitchens in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions and those outside 3T areas.

Zulhas said the swelling of MBG kitchen points is linked to an alleged case of point trading. Outside the 3T regions, the initial projection was 21,000 points, but the latest data shows 27,877 points.

“For example, there was trading of points. The initial plan was for 21,000 points, but now there are 27,877 points. So, there is a swelling of 6,877 points. That was the report from Mrs Nanik just now,” Zulhas said after a coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Food on Thursday (11/6).

He said there was a plan for 2,000 SPPG points in 3T regions. However, his findings showed there were 8,617 points.

“Now, the second one, ladies and gentlemen, this is our primary concern because it is underdeveloped, namely the 3T regions. The 3T regions were recorded as having 2,000 points, but then it swelled to 8,617 points. And 6,138 of those points already have a decree from BGN, 6,138,” he stated.
