Thousands of Residents Enthusiastically Watch the Padjadjaran Cultural Procession, Boosting the UMKM Economy

Thousands of residents were delighted and enthusiastic about the Kirab Budaya Napak Tilas Padjadjaran in Sumedang Regency on Saturday night (2 May 2026). From traders to communities, they felt the positive impact of the event.

Lilis, a resident from Gunung Puyuh Permai, said she was pleased and excited to wait for the procession in front of Sumedang Town Square. The Kirab Budaya Napak Tilas Padjadjaran began with a procession carrying the Mahkota Binokasih, accompanied by the kereta kencana. The parade passed through the main roads of Sumedang Regency.

“I’m happy to see cultural events like this; I brought my child and husband to watch at the Town Square,” she said, quoted on Friday, 8 May 2026.

Asep, from the Asep Sumedang community group, supported the commemoration of Tatar Sunda. He believed cultural activities must be continuously preserved and introduced to the younger generation.

“I agree if it’s held every year,” he added.

Santi, a tea seller at the Town Square, said she had sold three gallons of iced tea that day, compared to just one gallon on a normal day.

“Alhamdulillah, with events like this, sales increase a lot. Have more events like this so that sales go up,” she said.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that every cultural activity would certainly have a positive impact on the local economy.

“The economic potential is definitely high. Events like this also give birth to new micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM). This was sudden, but next year Sumedang will prepare better, and the potential will be much greater,” said KDM, the governor’s affectionate nickname.

Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir said hotel rooms were full of guests wanting to take a long holiday in Sumedang while watching the cultural procession.

“Hotels are full, restaurants are full, and I’m sure UMKM in Sumedang are happy and developing. Thank you for initiating this event in Sumedang,” he said.
