Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has again opened its scholarship programme for pupils and students from economically disadvantaged families through the BSI Scholarship 2026 programme. This year, the programme aims to distribute scholarships to 5,250 beneficiaries, comprising 3,750 university students and 1,500 pupils across various regions of Indonesia.

BSI’s President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said the programme is not merely an educational aid but a long-term investment to nurture Indonesia’s outstanding generation. ‘No bright child should lose their future simply because of cost,’ he stated.

He added that the BSI Scholarship is also part of optimising the company’s zakat to widen access to education and curb the poverty cycle by strengthening the quality of human resources.

Since its launch in 2021, the BSI Scholarship has reached more than 10,162 beneficiaries, comprising 7,962 university students and 2,200 pupils.

About 1,500 beneficiaries are said to have graduated and are now employed in various national companies or continuing their studies at prestigious state universities.

The programme operates across seven categories, from pupil, excellence, inspiration, talent, achievement, affirmation, to Talenta KIP-K BSI.

In addition to tuition support and pocket money, recipients also receive capacity-building development, including leadership training, character-strengthening, Islamic economic literacy, and career preparation.

BSI also opens opportunities for recruitment for awardees in line with their respective competency fields. ‘The BSI Scholarship is expected to produce not only academically qualified graduates but also high-calibre human resources who are resilient, adaptable, and with strong social responsibility,’ Anggoro said.

During 2025, BSI reportedly channelled corporate zakat amounting to Rp289 billion through the National Amil Zakat Agency to support community empowerment programmes. The funds were distributed across education, humanitarian assistance, economy, health, and da'wah.
