Thousands of Muslims in Mataram Join Vibrant Takbiran Procession
Mataram (ANTARA) - Thousands of Muslims in the city of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara Province, took part in a vibrant takbiran procession to welcome 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah/2026, held across six districts of Mataram City.
Assistant I of the Mataram City Regional Secretariat, Lalu Martawang, stated in Mataram on Friday that the takbiran procession in the six districts of Mataram City was joined by 202 groups.
“Participants in one group or one neighbourhood involve hundreds of residents,” he said.
The 202 groups participating in the takbiran procession consisted of 32 groups from Sandubaya District, 27 from Mataram District, 50 from Ampenan District, 38 from Selaparang District, 27 from Cakranegara District, and 28 from Sekarbela District.
Martawang said that based on observations of the takbiran procession in the six districts, it had so far proceeded as planned, safely and smoothly.
“Each group displayed various artistic works, creating miniature mosques, Qurans, lanterns, while chanting takbir, tasbih, and tahmid,” he said.
In particular, in Cakranegara, which is a Hindu-majority district, he continued, participation from people of other faiths was very enthusiastic in enlivening the takbiran night by joining the front of the parade.
Mataram serves as a showcase of harmonious and mutually respectful life, vividly demonstrated in religious events that overlap in timing a short while ago.
From Chinese New Year activities almost coinciding with the start of fasting, then the ogoh-ogoh procession and Nyepi seclusion in the month of Ramadan leading up to Eid al-Fitr, and the takbiran night procession attended by various religious figures.
“Indeed, this is real and tangible proof of the interfaith tolerance that exists in Mataram City,” he said.
