Thousands of Joint Personnel Secure Sembako Distribution at Monas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 7,728 joint personnel from the National Police (Polri), Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and local government are deployed to secure the distribution of basic necessities (sembako) and a subsidised market at Lapangan Ikada, in the Monas area, Gambir, Central Jakarta.
“I hope all officers understand their respective duties,” said Deputy Chief of Metro Jaya Police Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to him, the security briefing is conducted to check personnel readiness as well as the assignment of security duties at several strategic points.
Dekananto emphasised that this activity is not merely a ceremonial briefing, but a form of final readiness in facing potential vulnerabilities in the field, considering the event will be attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia and potentially thousands of the public.
“This briefing is not a formality; it is the final check of personnel and equipment readiness,” he stated.
He reminded of the potential for a mass surge, especially from residents who do not have coupons.
It is known that the distributed coupons number 100,000, while the committee has only prepared around 4,000 tickets for the public who can enter the main area.
Meanwhile, the distribution plan will begin at 3:00 PM Western Indonesia Time until completion at 9:00 PM Western Indonesia Time.
“Officers at the entrances must be firm. Only those with tickets and bracelets are allowed to enter; others are not permitted to avoid unrest,” he said.
In addition to access regulation, personnel are also asked to anticipate potential public order and security disturbances such as pickpocketing, bag snatching, and motor vehicle theft.
The thousands of personnel are deployed at various points, starting from the Monas bowl area, entrance gates to the area, to main roads around it such as Jalan Merdeka Utara, Selatan, Barat, and Timur.
“Security must be carried out in a humane manner, yet remain firm. No incidents, no matter how small, should occur,” he stated.
