Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Civil Registry and Population Administration Office (Dukcapil) has carried out simultaneous on-site civil registration services reaching more than 1,800 inmates in eight correctional institutions (prisons) and state detention centres in the Jakarta area.

The activity, conducted on Monday (27/4) to commemorate the 62nd Correctional Services Day, is an effort to ensure that all residents continue to receive their rights to civil registration documents, even when facing limitations in accessing services.

“Even though they are in constrained conditions, inmates still have the same rights to possess valid civil registration documents,” said the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Dukcapil Office, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The eight prison and detention centre locations in question are Cipinang Class I Prison, Cipinang Class IIA Narcotics Prison, Cipinang Detention Centre, Pondok Bambu Class IIA Women’s Prison, Pondok Bambu Class IIA Women’s Detention Centre, Salemba Class IIA Prison, Salemba Class I Detention Centre, and the Jakarta Class II Special Children’s Development Institution (LPKA) located in Cinere.

The services provided include the recording and printing of Electronic ID Cards, biometric checks, and matching of the National ID Number (NIK).

Similar services are also being held simultaneously across all other districts and cities in Indonesia based on instructions from the Director General of Civil Registry and Population Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Teguh Setyabudi.

Denny stated that this on-site initiative encourages the acceleration of massive and coordinated civil registration data recording for inmates across all prisons and detention centres, while strengthening NIK validation and matching as an accurate and integrated population database to support the fulfilment of public service rights, including healthcare services.

According to him, possession of valid civil registration documents provides legal certainty regarding an individual’s identity as a legal subject recognised by the state, so that every inmate still has protection and access to their basic rights in accordance with statutory regulations.

Denny added that Dukcapil Jakarta will continue to strengthen cross-sectoral synergy to deliver inclusive, sustainable civil registration services that guarantee legal certainty for all society, both during their rehabilitation period and after returning to the social environment.
