Thousands of houses flooded in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Several thousand houses in the Bandar Selamat area of Medan were inundated by floods early on Saturday after rain drenched the city all night long.

Many homeowners were seen drying out their belongings throughout the morning on Saturday, or trying to shore up several dirty, overflowing ditches along the streets in the Bandar Selamat-Tembung area.

The flood also inundated some areas near Karya and Amir Hamzah streets near downtown, causing heavy traffic congestion.
