Thousands of Hindus to attend ritual

SURABAYA: Thousands of Hindus from across the country are expected to climb famed Mt. Bromo in East Java's Probolinggo regency on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 to attend the religious ritual of Yadnya Kasada, Antara reported.

During the ritual at the Temple of Luhur Poten, 95 kilometers from here, worshipers will pray for protection and a good harvest.

Religious leader Soedjai called on both local and overseas tourists who would visit the ritual to behave themselves in order to help keep the ritual sacred.

"It should not become like a market festival at night, so please do not disturb the ritual's proceedings," he said. (aan)
