Thousands of Hanania Travel Umrah Pilgrims Unable to Depart, MP Says 'Unacceptable'
DPR Commission VIII member Maman Imanulhaq expressed concern over Hanania Travel’s failure to deploy 1,260 Umrah pilgrims.
‘This is deeply concerning and must be taken seriously. Umrah is a religious obligation prepared by pilgrims with hope and sacrifice, so travel practices that harm the public cannot be tolerated,’ Maman told Kompas.com on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
He urged the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, alongside law enforcement, to take swift and firm action against the travel agency owner. He also called for guaranteed refunds for pilgrims.
‘All pilgrims’ rights must be protected, including confirmed departures and refunds,’ he added.
He noted that such cases highlight the need for stronger oversight of Umrah travel agencies to ensure transparency, professionalism, and accountability.
He advised the public to be cautious when choosing travel agencies, verifying official legitimacy and avoiding unrealistically low prices.
‘The DPR Commission VIII will continue to monitor regulatory strengthening and pilgrim protection to prevent recurrence. May all affected pilgrims find patience and have their rights resolved promptly,’ he stressed.
Affected pilgrims are seeking clarification on refunds for cancelled departures and confirmation on whether June and September groups will proceed.
