Thousands of civil servants deployed to clear debris from Sade Traditional House fire
The Central Lombok Regency Government in West Nusa Tenggara has deployed thousands of civil servants, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and National Police, to handle the remaining debris from the fire that destroyed the Sade Traditional Village in Rambitan Village, Pujut District.
“This community effort is to support the recovery process of the Sade Traditional House,” said Central Lombok Regent Lalu Pathul Bahri while attending the community clean-up at the Sade Traditional Village in Central Lombok on Wednesday.
He said the activity involving thousands of civil servants, military and police personnel was a form of commitment to supporting the recovery process for the communities affected by the fire.
“This is a form of synergy among all parties to be present and help the communities affected by the disaster,” he said.
“Essentially, the waste being cleared is the remains of the fire,” he said.
He said five waste transport vehicles had been deployed, while four water tanker trucks were on standby for spraying, sourced from the regional water company, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Regional Disaster Management Agency, and other relevant parties.
“The waste being cleared is taken directly to the final disposal site, because it cannot be sorted; there is broken glass or fragments of plates and cups,” he said.
On Saturday (22/8), hundreds of buildings in the Sade Traditional Village, an icon of Lombok’s cultural tourism, were completely destroyed by fire.
No casualties were reported in the incident, but a number of residents’ valuables, such as woven fabrics, mobile phones, gold, and household furniture, were completely burned.
Based on preliminary data, 75 traditional houses were burned, along with 69 residential buildings and art shops, and the number of affected residents reached 320 people.
The regional government and relevant parties are currently carrying out handling and recovery efforts for the victims.
