Thousands of Brebes Residents Join Torch Parade to Mark Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 H
Thousands of residents filled the main streets of Brebes City, Central Java, to witness the Grand Parade for the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah on Monday evening (15/6/2026). The glow of torchlight, the sound of tambourines, and performances by marching bands and traditional arts combined to create a spirited religious atmosphere.
The event, organised by the Brebes Regency Government, carried the theme ‘Spirit of Hijrah to Strengthen Ukhuwah and Weave Togetherness Towards Brebes Beres.’ The theme called on the community to make the Islamic New Year a momentum to strengthen brotherhood, increase social awareness, and build optimism in community life.
The Grand Parade was attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, Deputy Regent of Brebes Wurja, and heads of regional apparatus organisations within the Brebes Regency Government. The event started from the Brebes Islamic Center and was officially launched by the Regional Secretary of Brebes Regency, Tahroni.
Thousands of participants then moved along the route from the Islamic Center to the Brebes Integrated Office Complex (KPT). Along the journey, the public appeared enthusiastic watching the parade procession. Many residents captured the moment on their mobile phones.
At the KPT Brebes courtyard, Deputy Regent of Brebes Wurja along with regional government officials welcomed the arrival of the parade participants. The warmth and spirit of togetherness were palpable, reflecting the values of ukhuwah that are the essence of the Islamic New Year commemoration.
Deputy Regent of Brebes, Wurja, reminded attendees that the 1 Muharram commemoration should not only be seen as the turn of the year in the Hijri calendar, but also as a reminder to continuously strive for positive change.
‘Hijrah teaches us about the courage to change, to improve ourselves, and to strengthen care for others. This spirit must continue to live within the community as capital to build a more advanced and prosperous Brebes,’ said Wurja.
Wurja also expressed appreciation for the high level of public participation in the event, which demonstrated a strong spirit of togetherness and love for Islamic outreach.
‘This Grand Parade is proof that the people of Brebes possess an extraordinary spirit of unity. Let us make the Islamic New Year a starting point to strengthen ukhuwah, reinforce mutual cooperation, and together realise Brebes Beres,’ Wurja added.
The 1 Muharram commemoration serves as a reminder that each new year is an opportunity for introspection and renewing one’s resolve to spread goodness.
