Thousands live in disaster areas
BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: More than 524,000 people are currently living in areas prone to natural and other forms of disaster, an official says.
Head of the local office of the Ministry of Social Services Mustafa told Antara that the disaster-prone areas cover Banjarmasin, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Utara, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Barito Kuala, Tapin and Kotabaru regencies.
Floods, landslides, fires and rainstorms are among the kinds of disasters that are typical to these densely-populated areas. (swe)
