Thousands Join Fishing Competition in Serang to Celebrate Bhayangkara Day
Thousands of anglers from various regions flocked to the Serang Regency Government Complex (Puspemkab) lake in Banten to take part in the Lomba Mancing Mania fishing competition. The event was held to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community in maintaining security and public order.
The fishing competition was organised by the Serang Police to enliven the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebrations in 2026, on Sunday (21/6/2026). The three-hour event, running from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. WIB, formed part of the Bhayangkara Day commemorations. To add to the festivities, the committee released two tonnes of catfish and carp into the Puspemkab Serang lake.
Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan stated that the Lomba Mancing Mania was open to all levels of society. Besides serving as a means of entertainment and recreation, the activity also provided a platform to strengthen togetherness and foster closer ties between the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the public.
"We organised this Lomba Mancing Mania as part of the series of events for the 80th Bhayangkara Day anniversary. This activity is open to the public and serves as a means to build relationships and strengthen the bond between the police and residents," said Andri.
The police chief explained that the overarching theme of this year’s Bhayangkara Day commemoration was ‘80 Years of Polri’s Service to the Community’. Through various activities that directly involve the public, the Serang Police aim to present a police force that is increasingly close to and loved by the community.
Beyond strengthening ties, the activity was also expected to boost public participation in maintaining security and order in their respective neighbourhoods. According to the police chief, the togetherness fostered through positive activities can create a safe and conducive security and public order situation.
"Through simple activities like this fishing competition, we want to build closer communication with the community. With the establishment of togetherness, it is hoped that public awareness to jointly maintain security and order will also increase," he said.
In the competition, participants were allowed to use any fishing rod of their choice while adhering to the rules set by the committee. "The committee has prepared various competition necessities, including the release of two tonnes of fish. We hope participants can enjoy this activity with full enthusiasm, maintain sportsmanship, and comply with all applicable regulations," Andri explained.
The Serang Police also provided a total prize of Rp10 million for the winners. Judging was based on the categories of ribbon-tagged fish and the highest total catch. "Through this activity, we hope the momentum of the 80th Bhayangkara Day can further strengthen the relationship between the police and the community while creating an atmosphere of togetherness filled with joy," he said.
