The Regent of the Thousand Islands, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, is encouraging the development of existing tourist destinations on Untung Jawa Island, located in the South Thousand Islands District, to increase visitor numbers to the area.

“Today, we are monitoring the area’s arrangement in Untung Jawa Island and identifying several locations that need better development and management, both in terms of assets and location,” Fadjar stated in South Thousand Islands on Wednesday.

He noted that this step was taken to monitor various areas within Untung Jawa Island that possess potential for tourism sector expansion. Alongside his team, he visited several sites, including Jembatan Pengantin, Mangrove Park, and Sakura Park. This activity is expected to monitor the stages of tourism development to enhance the area’s attractiveness to tourists.

“In this activity, we are involving all parties to ensure that the area’s arrangement can proceed maximally,” he added.

Previously, 13,020 domestic and international tourists visited various destinations in the Thousand Islands, Jakarta, during the two-day holiday on Saturday (30/5) and Sunday (31/5), coinciding with the Vesak holiday.

“These thousands of tourists arrived through various entry points in the Thousand Islands region, coming from both Jakarta and Tangerang,” said the Head of the Thousand Islands Tourism, Arts, and Culture Sub-department, Fahmi Ardo Ramlan, in Jakarta on Monday.

He detailed that on Saturday (30/5), 6,110 people holidayed in the archipelago area north of Jakarta, followed by 6,910 people crossing to various tourist destinations on Sunday (31/5).

According to him, due to its proximity to mainland Jakarta, the Thousand Islands remains a preferred choice for tourists during holiday periods such as this year’s Vesak holiday.
