Thoughts on SLTP 56 land swap
From Republika
The land swap involving a state junior high school (SLTP 56)
has led to a conflict between the Jakarta administration and
members of the school.
It must be noted that a property swap involving a school is
not as simple as selling a plot of land or a house. In the case
of a house or a piece of land, as long as the documents are in
order, the transaction will proceed smoothly. In the case of
schools, however, the swap involves students, teachers and
students' parents, so the transaction is not just a matter of
legal niceties. Many things must be considered, for example, the
location of the new school.
In the case of SLTP 56, would it not be better, in the
interests of many people, if the deal was canceled? If it is not
possible to cancel the deal, then there must be no more such
swaps in the future. A school can be closed or sold only if it
has a very small number of students.
