Thomson, Malicak sign deal

JAKARTA (JP): PT Matahari Lintas Cakrawala (Malicak), a private digital television operator, has selected Thomson Multimedia, a subsidiary of the France-based Thomson SA, to produce and retail television equipment for it.

Under a deal signed in Singapore on Thursday, Thomson Multimedia will manufacture and market RCA-brand digital satellite receivers for the full Indovision direct broadcast satellite (DBS). Indovision is a trademark of Malicak.

No information was available on the value of the deal.

Malicak, one of the largest digital satellite television providers in Asia, plans to broadcast some 40 channels in Indonesia in 1997. The company will operate Indostar DBS satellite which is scheduled for launching early next year. (icn)
