Thomson, IPTN win contract
PARIS (Dow Jones): France's Thomson-CSF (F.CSF) and Indonesia's IPTN Wednesday won a $150 million defense contract to provide the United Arab Emirates with four maritime patrol aircraft.
The contract, which was awarded at an arms fair in Abu Dhabi, is split into two parts. The part that covers the actual planes was awarded to IPTN, while the part that covers the surveillance and reconnaissance systems with which the planes will be equipped was awarded to Thomson-CSF. No breakdown was given for the value of each part of the contract.
The other companies competing for the aircraft part of the contract included Bombardier Services of Canada, CASA of Spain and Fokker of the Netherlands. The companies competing with Thomson-CSF for the surveillance equipment part of the contract included Argos of the U.S. and Germany's DASA.
