Thomas Trikasih Lembong: From Harvard Architecture Graduate to Indonesia's Investment Chief

Thomas Trikasih Lembong, commonly known as Tom Lembong, was born in Jakarta on 4 March 1971. He is the son of Yohanes Lembong, a cardiologist and ENT specialist who graduated from Universitas Indonesia and hailed from Manado, and Yetty Lembong, a housewife from Tuban.

From 27 July 2016 to 23 October 2019, Tom Lembong served as Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). Prior to that role, he served as Indonesia's Minister of Trade from 12 August 2015 to 27 July 2016.

Tom spent his childhood in Germany until the age of 10 and continued his primary and secondary education at Regina Pacis in Jakarta. After completing secondary school, he pursued his senior high school education in Boston before studying architecture and urban planning at Harvard University in the United States.

Despite graduating in architecture, Tom's aptitude for economics became evident through his work in Morgan Stanley's equity division in Singapore. Between 1999 and 2000, he worked as an investment banker at Deutsche Securities Indonesia. He also co-founded and served as chief executive of a Singapore-based equity firm called Quvat Management in 2006. Additionally, he held the position of president commissioner at PT Graha Layar Prima Tbk from 2012 to 2014.

In 2002, Tom married Maria Franciska Wihardja, commonly known as Ciska, and the couple have two children.
