Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, has confirmed that around 40,000 units of subsidised housing quota will be prepared in Central Java this year.

“If possible, 40,000 will be prepared this year,” Ara stated during a meeting with Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi and several regents from across Central Java at his office in Jakarta on Thursday (2/4/2026).

He said that Central Java has shown good national achievements, even though its population is among the largest in Indonesia.

“Central Java is also good. Second nationally, even though its population is number three. So in that regard, the achievement is very good,” he said.

In addition to the subsidised housing programme, Ara also mentioned the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme, which he referred to as “house renovation.”

That programme, he said, will involve micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

He added that the implementation of the programme is expected to utilise local products, such as building materials from the local area, to boost the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) economy.

Ara also mentioned the potential for building material centres in Central Java, including in Kebumen, which can be optimised in the housing programme.

On that occasion, he also touched on cross-ministerial coordination, including with Interior Minister Tito Karnavian and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid, regarding the readiness of programme implementation in the regions.

He added that the agricultural sector in Central Java is considered to have good national achievements, which also serves as an indicator of the region’s readiness to support various government programmes.
