This Mysterious Land is the Point of Debate Between Minister Ara and Hercules, What is its Function?
A plot of land near Tanah Abang Station in Central Jakarta recently went viral on social media. It is planned to be developed into rusun (affordable housing) for residents along the railway tracks near Tanah Abang Station, prompting a visit from the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait (Ara). During Minister Ara’s visit to the land, she had a debate with the Chairman of the New Indonesia People’s Movement (GRIB), Rosario de Marshal (Hercules). The location of the land is near Jalan Jati Bunder and Jalan Jembatan Tinggi, or behind Tanah Abang Market Block G. This land is actually referred to as “Lahan Bongkaran”. Currently, the land is used as a parking area for logistics vehicles for goods to be sold at Tanah Abang Market, including clothing. Several trucks loaded with clothing were seen parked there. However, when CNBC Indonesia visited the land, it was not crowded. A security officer met by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (9/4/2026) revealed that the land is now used for parking trucks and traders’ cars from Tanah Abang Market. “Now it’s used for parking trucks that usually deliver goods to be sold at the market (Tanah Abang), because there is no large parking area near the market, so it’s here,” said the security officer on (9/4/2026). In addition to clothing transport trucks, the land is also currently used as a parking area for private vehicles of Tanah Abang traders. “The parked cars you see are actually owned by traders at the market (Tanah Abang),” he explained.
