The victim managed to escape after fighting the crocodile, said the Public Relations Head of Muna Police, Iptu Muhammad Jufri, in a statement reported by detikSulsel on Thursday, 20 May 2026. The incident occurred at Sungai Wapehale, Desa Lamaeo, Kecamatan Kabawo, Muna, on Monday (18 May) around 16:00 Wita. Wa Gobe, who lived alone in a plantation near the river, was preparing to bathe as usual in Sungai Wapehale. “When the victim was wetting his head in the water, suddenly a crocodile appeared and immediately seized the victim’s head,” he said. The crocodile then dragged Wa Gobe to the middle of the river. In a panicked state, Wa Gobe attempted to fight back by grabbing the crocodile’s body and inserting his hand into the animal’s mouth until it finally released its bite. As a result, Wa Gobe sustained serious injuries including bites to the head, left arm and left leg with substantial bleeding. After initial treatment at a puskesmas, the victim was referred to Bahteramas Kendari Hospital.
