The Iranian government will demand compensation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for damage resulting from United States (US) attacks launched from that country’s territory, said Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani. In his letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as noted by NourNews, the Iranian envoy stated that the UAE’s actions at the international level warrant legal measures. These steps include demands for compensation, encompassing payments for all types of losses suffered by Iran, he added. Iran had previously warned of targeting energy infrastructure in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates in retaliation for attacks by Israel and the US on its energy assets. The UAE stated that Iran attacked the Habshan gas processing facility and the Bab oil field on Wednesday (18/3). ‘This attack represents a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law. The UAE has the full right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national security, as well as to safeguard its national interests,’ wrote the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on platform X. The ministry assessed the attack on vital infrastructure and oil facilities as ‘a direct threat to regional security and stability, as well as to global energy security.’ On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East as an act of self-defence.
