This is the Procedure for Retrieving a Seized Motorbike from the Police Station
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Motorbikes seized by the police due to traffic violations or enforcement procedures on the road can, in principle, be reclaimed by their owners. However, a number of administrative procedures must be fulfilled to prove the legality of the vehicle’s ownership. This step is taken to ensure that the vehicle being claimed truly belongs to the individual concerned and is not the result of criminal activity. In addition to the main documents, owners are advised to bring other supporting evidence that can strengthen their ownership status. “Keys sometimes, basically, bring everything we have related to the motorbike,” said Ojo, when contacted by Kompas.com recently. In response to this, Ojo added that if the owner only has the STNK, while the BPKB is still with the leasing company, the vehicle owner must first obtain a statement from the leasing party. The letter from the leasing company serves as a temporary substitute for the original BPKB to show that the vehicle is in a valid instalment period. If all documents are complete and validated by the officers, the vehicle handover process can be carried out quickly without additional fees, apart from any traffic fines that may need to be settled first. “But, if the STNK, and the keys are still in hand, BPKB is already there, the motorbike is given directly,” said Ojo. Vehicle owners are urged to always carry complete documents while driving and ensure the completeness of paperwork if they have to deal with seizure procedures at the police station.
