Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police has revealed the modus operandi used by the counterfeit money distributor with initials MP (39) in Bogor, West Java, on Monday (30/3). “The suspect copied genuine Rp100,000 denomination notes using an Epson printer, with an original genuine note as the master. After printing on cardstock paper, the results were cut using a cutting tool to resemble genuine currency,” said Deputy Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Martuasah Hermindo Tobing, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that the money was intended to be distributed through a money multiplication scheme or shamanistic practices. “The suspect enticed victims with promises of being able to double money if the victim provided a sum of genuine money,” said Martuasah. Furthermore, he explained that the police had conducted an investigation for nearly two weeks based on information from the public regarding the case. The seized evidence includes counterfeit Rp100,000 notes totalling 12,191 sheets, consisting of two-sided printed money (64 stacks + 50 sheets), one-sided printed money (57 stacks + 41 sheets), and uncut sheets numbering 65. “The charged articles are Article 374 of the Criminal Code, Article 375 of the Criminal Code, and Article 20 of the Criminal Code related to the falsification of the state’s currency, with a maximum prison sentence of 10 to 15 years and fines in categories VII to VIII,” emphasised Martuasah. “In the revelation, one perpetrator with initials MP was arrested in a hotel room in the Kemang area, Bogor Regency, on Monday (30/3),” said Head of Subdirectorate II Economic Bank of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, AKBP Robby Syahfery, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3).
