The discourse on implementing a work-from-home (WFH) system for one day per week for civil servants (ASN) and private sector workers has generated new discussions.

Several workers in Jakarta have different preferences regarding the day for implementing WFH, ranging from Wednesday as a mid-week break to Monday or Friday for time efficiency and to avoid traffic jams.

Dimas (29), a staff member at one of the Sub-District Offices in DKI Jakarta, firmly chooses Wednesday as the ideal time for WFH.

He considers that day suitable for resting the body and mind in the middle of the week.

According to him, with WFH on Wednesday, workers do not have to commute to the office for five consecutive days.

“The first two days we go to the office on Monday and Tuesday, then WFH on Wednesday so we can catch a breath at home. After that, two more days of work at the office for Thursday and Friday, then we meet the weekend. The body won’t be too strained from five consecutive days of fatigue on the roads,” said Dimas.

He added that this pattern makes the work rhythm feel more balanced because there is a break in the middle of the week without having to wait for the weekend.

He considers both days can provide time efficiency as well as increase productivity.

According to him, Friday at the office is often less optimal for working.

“If Friday, the reason is more about effectiveness. To be honest, Friday at the office is sometimes less efficient. The lunch break is quicker and the return is longer because of Friday prayer time. Also, people usually want to go home earlier,” explained Rakha.

He believes that working from home on Friday is actually more productive for completing tasks.

In addition, Rakha also considers the option of WFH on Monday. According to him, the first working day after the weekend often becomes a heavy moment for some workers.
