Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto announced that the cost per Indonesian Hajj pilgrim for 2026 will still be reduced by Rp2 million, despite the increase in aviation fuel prices. “We ensure that the Hajj cost for 2026 will be lowered by around Rp2 million, even though aviation fuel prices are rising,” said President Prabowo during the Government Working Meeting at the Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday. The President, in front of around 800 bureaucrats, stated that the government does not want to burden Indonesian Hajj pilgrims, including amid the surging global crude oil prices, including aircraft fuel, avtur. The Indonesian government and the DPR RI in 2025 have set the Hajj Organisational Cost (BPIH) for 2026 to remain reduced by Rp2 million, thus the amount of BPIH this year reaches Rp87,409,366 per pilgrim. In a separate opportunity, the Minister of Hajj and Umrah (Menhaj) Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, during a working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR, explained that President Prabowo has instructed that if there is an increase in Hajj cost components this year, the increase should not be passed on to prospective Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. Irfan then explained that before the war broke out between Iran and Zionist Israel and America, the average flight cost per pilgrim was around Rp33.5 million. In a scenario without changes to the flight route, the average cost per person is estimated to increase to Rp46.9 million or a rise of 39.85 percent. Meanwhile, if there is a route change (re-routing) to avoid conflict airspace, the cost could soar to Rp50.8 million or a rise of around 51.48 percent. Garuda Indonesia airlines, said Irfan, proposed an additional cost of around Rp7.9 million per person, while Saudi Airlines proposed an increase of 480 US dollars per person. Nevertheless, Menhaj Irfan emphasised that President Prabowo’s directive remains the main guide for the government in formulating policy. “That is a commitment from President Prabowo who has instructed us with the team to follow up and calculate how much is actually needed,” said Irfan.
