This is Pertamina Hulu Energi's Step to Increase Oil and Gas Production
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) has successfully completed the crucial phase of total shutdown and tie-in for the OO-OX Field Development Project. This success represents a strategic step to increase oil production by approximately 3,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and natural gas by 21–22 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
The tie-in process for the pipeline network from the OOA Well to the Balongan OPF was carried out from 7–12 February 2026 through a planned total shutdown lasting 120 hours. The work included system upgrades, pipeline connections, and simultaneous electrical and instrumentation installations amid the challenges of monsoon weather.
The timely completion of this phase is vital to maintain gas supply to the Balongan refinery and ensure the continuity of national fuel oil (BBM) production.
OO-OX Project Lead Asep Gunawan stated that this phase was the most complex stage of the project. “During the golden moment period, when hydrocarbon flow was temporarily halted, we performed welding at seven points simultaneously while prioritising safety. The integration of existing assets and new systems is key to making future operations more efficient and reliable,” he said.
This success was also supported by solid cross-functional collaboration, disciplined project execution, and the application of the 4P principles (People, Plant, Process, and Product) in every stage of the work. All activities were conducted with the implementation of standards and strict supervision before entering the next phase.
The commitment to workplace safety is reflected in the achievement of more than 3 million safe work hours during the project execution, which demonstrates the team’s consistency in maintaining HSSE standards amid high-risk work and complex simultaneous operations.
PHE ONWJ General Manager Muzwir Wiratama emphasised that this success ensures the project remains on track according to targets, with the motto always implemented in Zone 5: Safer, Faster, Better.
“Our principle is clear. Safety is the primary foundation before moving faster and delivering the best results for Indonesia’s energy resilience,” he asserted.
The OO-OX Project will next enter the commissioning stage and is targeted to begin production in the first quarter of 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen national energy resilience.
