This is How PPPK Kemayoran Welcomes Thousands of Buddhist Devotees Ahead of Vesak Day 2026
Jakarta, VIVA – The Pusat Pengelolaan Komplek Kemayoran (PPK Kemayoran) area is once again witnessing a spiritual and cultural celebration with the organisation of the National Vesak Pindapata Echo 2026.
Initiated by the Sangha Theravada Indonesia (STI), this event brings together 78 Bhikkhu Sangha members and tens of thousands of Buddhist devotees in a Pindapata procession, as part of the commemoration of Vesak Day 2570 BE.
The Pindapata procession is a noble tradition originating from the Pali language, combining the words ‘pinda’ (food) and ‘patta’ (food bowl), symbolising the practice of Bhikkhus gathering food offerings from the faithful.
The event is being held in the PPK Kemayoran area, specifically along Jalan Benyamin Sueb from the Mega Kemayoran roundabout (MGK) to the BNI roundabout and back to the starting point, where the Bhikkhus walk barefoot, receiving puja dana offerings in the form of clothing, food, and medicines from thousands of attending Buddhist devotees. This activity is the third time it has been carried out in the Kemayoran area.
Carrying the national theme ‘Walking the Noble Path to Contribute to the Nation’, the National Vesak Pindapata Echo 2026 not only focuses on strengthening spiritual values but also serves as a social action.
The series of events, lasting two days, begins with spiritual preparations on 9 May and peaks on 10 May, also including social activities such as blood donations, free health checks, and the planting of eco-enzymes as a form of environmental concern.
PPK Kemayoran Director General Teddy Robinson Siahaan welcomes the implementation of this event.
“We strongly support this Pindapata activity as part of a spiritual tradition that strengthens togetherness. This shows that the PPK Kemayoran area not only serves as a centre for business and international events but also as an alternative venue for religious activities, proving the diversity of activities in our area,” he stated in his comments on Monday, 11 May 2026.
Bhikkhu Dhammakaro Mahathera, as Chairman of the National Vesak Pindapata Echo 2026 Committee, emphasised that Pindapata teaches generosity, simplicity, and a spirit of mutual support in spiritual life.
“The theme of today’s event is walking the noble path to contribute to the nation. The series of Vesak Echo 2026 is not only through Pindapata but also blood donations, free health checks, and the distribution of eco-enzymes. Pindapata is not merely a ritual, but a noble tradition that has been alive for 2,500 years and continues to be practised to this day. Pindapata serves as a means for Bhikkhus to guide the faithful in practising generosity. This moment trains about simplicity to support and sustain each other in spiritual life,” he explained.
