This is Farhan's Vision for Managing Bandung Zoo
The Bandung City Government is committed to revitalising Bandung Zoo. More than just a tourist destination, this state-owned asset will be projected as a flagship conservation area focused on preserving West Java’s endemic wildlife. This was conveyed by Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan regarding his vision and mission following the takeover of Bandung Zoo management, on Friday (27/3), in Bandung. “Our main goal is to make Bandung Zoo a conservation institution that we can be proud of for the people of Bandung and West Java,” he said. He explained that they would focus on conservation functions, including the sustainability of reproduction, reintroduction, and protection of endemic wildlife. According to him, these three main aspects will become the new spirit of zoo management. “First, ensuring that the reproduction activities of rare animals do not stop. Second, starting steps to reintroduce animals back to their original habitats. Third, we are placing special attention on native West Java wildlife,” he said. His side wants to highlight West Java’s endemic animals such as the Javan leopard, surili, and Javan rhino. “We want these species and other characteristic West Java animals to be conserved to the highest standards here,” he emphasised. Not only that, Farhan also stressed that Bandung Zoo holds deep cultural value for the people of West Java. In addition to its establishment, the tradition of visiting the zoo during Eid has become a strong reason why this legacy of the Bratakoesoema family must be preserved. “We also appreciate the dedication of the employees who have served there for decades. They are part of the big family of zoo keepers. Our hope is that this place remains a safe and comfortable educational space, as well as the forefront in preserving local wildlife,” he said.
