This is Considered the Key to Successfully Saving Fuel with WFH Every Friday
Public policy expert from Trisakti University, Trubus Rahadiansyah, assesses that the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday could save energy. Trubus states that this policy can succeed if ASN are disciplined during WFH.
“Yes, it reduces mobility and allows focus on work; with WFH, it’s just focusing on tasks at home. Of course, for lower-ranking ASN, this is very helpful as they don’t need to spend on transport—it’s beneficial. But on the government target of Rp 6.2 trillion, it can be achieved if the implementation of WFH is carried out well and with discipline,” said Trubus in an interview with detikcom on Thursday (2/4/2026).
Trubus hopes that the evaluation of the WFH policy will be transparent so the public can know the results. What Trubus worries about is ASN in the regions, as according to him, there is currently no system or app for the public to monitor ASN movements.
“There should be an app created, but so far, there is no app provided to the public so they can report if there are regional ASN who are out and about—this usually happens in the regions, because in the regions, they can go around, fearing they use official vehicles, as in the regions, it’s determined by the regional head. So, what about the control?” he said.
“It should be possible for them to be disciplined, but I’m not 100% sure, so I’m doubtful,” he added.
Trubus says the public hopes that no ASN will misuse this policy. He hopes that ASN in the regions will also follow the central government’s orders and rules.
“Indeed, we are implementing SPBE, but the issue for 3T regions is infrastructure weaknesses, and now WFH is implemented, they might think WFH is a free day to go anywhere—that’s the concern,” he stated.
From his notes, Trubus claims to be confident that this policy will be effective as long as it is accompanied by strict supervision. If there are ASN who violate WFH rules, he hopes the government prepares sanctions.
“We believe it should be effective if the supervision is tight. Second, certainly enforcement of rules; if they violate and do not carry out their duties well, there must be sanctions that can be imposed on them,” he said.
As is known, the government has set a work-from-home policy, or WFH, for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. This work scheme is implemented in response to the impact of the Middle East conflict.
“The implementation of work-from-home for ASN in central and regional agencies, done for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a press conference on Tuesday (31/3) night.
