This Innovation Leads Pertagas OKA to Win PROPER Gold 2025
PT Pertamina Gas Operation Kalimantan Area (Pertagas OKA) has successfully received the 2025 Company Performance Rating Programme (PROPER) award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) with a Gold ranking. This award is given as recognition of the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management. The award was handed over directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK)/Head of the Environment and Forestry Management Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq during the PROPER Environmental Award event at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Hanif explained that the PROPER award is carried out as a mandate of Law No. 70 of 2024. In the coming year, this assessment will become a state obligation in supervising all business units across the country. One of the companies that successfully achieved PROPER Gold is PT Pertamina Gas Operation Kalimantan Area (Pertagas OKA). Pertagas OKA is one of the eight operational areas of PT Pertamina Gas, which focuses on natural gas transmission services. The main business focus of Pertagas OKA is gas transportation services, namely delivering gas from producers in East Kalimantan to consumers including fertiliser/ammonia industries, methanol, power plants, and household gas networks in the Bontang area. Pertagas OKA implements various innovations in sustainable environmental management. The first is the use of PERSOFEXT (Personal Fire Extinguisher), which can reduce water usage by 4 m³. In addition, Pertagas OKA implements the WTP Distribution Pipe innovation in Karya Jaya village. This innovation can reduce waste accumulation by 0.01038 tonnes. Lastly, the Industrial Wipes programme as a replacement for Majun cloths can reduce the generation of hazardous waste by 34.2 kg per year. For information, the PROPER award is routinely held as an effort to increase corporate compliance with environmental regulations. The award is given using several parameters. PROPER is a public disclosure programme for environmental performance assessment. This programme is complementary and can synergise with other compliance instruments. With this programme, efforts to improve environmental quality can be carried out more efficiently and effectively. The PROPER assessment criteria are divided into two categories: compliance and criteria exceeding the requirements in regulations (beyond compliance). Compliance criteria are based on the company’s efforts in fulfilling several aspects, including water pollution control, water source maintenance, air pollution control, hazardous and toxic waste management (B3), non-B3 waste management, B3 management, land damage control, and waste management. Meanwhile, beyond compliance criteria are more dynamic as they are adjusted to technological developments, the application of best environmental management practices, and global environmental issues. Several points in the beyond compliance assessment include the implementation of environmental management systems, energy efficiency efforts, emission reduction efforts, implementation of reduce, reuse, and recycle for B3 waste, water conservation and reduction of wastewater pollution load, biodiversity protection, and community development programmes.
