Jakarta — The Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, has urged all mosque administrators in Indonesia to hold joint prayers and recite Qunut Nazilah during Friday prayers. The appeal was delivered by the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia as a form of collective prayers for peace in various parts of the world currently afflicted by conflict.

‘We are hoping that all mosques in Indonesia, during tomorrow’s Friday prayers, will offer prayers and read Qunut Nazilah so that the conflicts taking place in the world can be resolved soon and peace can be brought about,’ Jusuf Kalla said in a statement from Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Jusuf Kalla said the holy month of Ramadan provides an opportune moment to seek mercy and Allah’s assistance, especially for countries currently experiencing conflict. He observed that the Muslim world is facing a range of problems and tensions in several regions, notably Iran, with its effects spreading to other countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Palestine.

‘Jusuf Kalla hopes that Allah will answer the prayers of Indonesian Muslims soon, so that people in conflict areas are granted safety, strength, and enduring peace. “During this Ramadan may we all be granted strength, and may the Muslim world, particularly in Iran, the Middle East, and Palestine, obtain peace from Allah,” he said.’

Jusuf Kalla also hopes that Muslims will use the Ramadan month to strengthen solidarity and concern for fellow Muslims across the world.

PBNU Instruction

Previously, the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) instructed all levels and NU members to actively revive the recitation of Qunut Nazilah in every obligatory prayer. The instruction was issued in response to escalating conflicts in the Middle East.

The letter, numbered 51/PB.01/A.II.08.47/99/03/2026 and dated 11 Ramadan 1447 AH or 1 March 2026 CE, was addressed to NU regional administrations across Indonesia, NU Branch Administrations, Special NU Branch Administrations, caretakers of pesantren within the NU’s RMI, as well as takmir mosque and mushala managers within the NU environment.

In the letter, PBNU stated that the instruction is a response to the worrying global developments. All NU members are asked to revive the practice of Qunut Nazilah according to the guidelines attached to the letter.

‘To all Nahdlatul Ulama members, to actively revive the practice of Qunut Nazilah. The Qunut Nazilah prayer should be recited in the final rak’ah of every obligatory prayer, including Friday prayers,’ the official letter quoted on Monday, 2 March 2026.
