This Car Can Park Itself and Pick Up Passengers: A Look at Its Specifications
Wuhu, CNBC Indonesia — Car technology is advancing not only to assist drivers on the road, but also when searching for a parking space. Chery Group, through its LUXEED brand, has demonstrated automated parking technology that allows a car to find a space and pick up passengers without being driven directly by a person.
The demonstration took place as part of the LUXEED Global Media Test Drive in Wuhu, Anhui, China. The technology, called Super Intelligent Valet Parking (SIVP), is designed to make parking more convenient by using sensors, environmental mapping and vehicle-control algorithms.
In the demonstration, the driver first left the car before activating the system. The vehicle then drove itself along the parking route, adjusted its speed and avoided obstacles until it found a space and parked by itself.
SIVP can also create a real-time three-dimensional (3D) map of its surroundings with centimetre-level precision. The capability is used as the car reverses and adjusts its position to park in the centre of an available space, including in tight parking areas.
In addition to automated parking, the technology allows the vehicle to be summoned through a mobile app. After receiving a command, the car can unlock itself at a different location, start its systems and drive to a specified pick-up point.
LUXEED presents SIVP as part of its suite of smart-driving technologies. The development reflects the brand’s approach of using technology to improve vehicle comfort and ease of use.
LUXEED is also developing the LLounge, a luxury MPV combining a spacious cabin, safety features and digital technology. The model is designed for a range of uses, from executive transport and family trips to daily travel and long-distance journeys.
The LLounge has a 3,250-millimetre wheelbase and second-row seats that can swivel by 45, 90 or 180 degrees. It is also equipped with dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering and a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system to support comfort and handling.
For passenger comfort, the LLounge features Nappa leather seats, mechanical massage functions, a 33-speaker audio system and a 21.4-inch entertainment screen mounted in the ceiling. Luggage capacity can be expanded from 892 litres to 2,002 litres.
In terms of safety, LUXEED has fitted the model with 13 airbags and a body structure combining high-strength steel and aluminium. The vehicle also has L2+ driver-assistance systems, including SIVP, making smart technology part of the driving and passenger experience rather than merely an add-on. However, LUXEED has not yet put the car on sale in Indonesia.
