Thirty arrested in raid
JAKARTA (JP): Personnel from the Jakarta Military Garrison and the City Public Order Office netted 30 men and women in raids on entertainment establishments in the city yesterday.
An officer of the Jakarta Military Garrison said the 30 people, including a manager of a discotheque, patrons, prostitutes and cleaning personnel, would be questioned.
"The raid was conducted in line with the governor's instruction for owners of such establishments to reduce their operating hours to respect the Ramadhan fasting month," he said.
According to the officer, the nightspots were found open after authorized opening hours.
"Nine of the people were netted in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. Twelve were netted in different nightspots in West Jakarta while the other nine people were arrested in East Jakarta and in North Jakarta," he said. (jun)
