Thirteen Children at Magelang Orphanage Suffer Diarrhoea, Suspected Food Poisoning from Fried Rice
Thirteen children residing at the Daarul Hikmah Putri orphanage, a branch of Muhammadiyah Borobudur for orphans and the underprivileged, are suspected of suffering from food poisoning. The victims have been taken to Aisyiyah Muntilan General Hospital in Magelang Regency.
The head of the Daarul Hikmah Putri orphanage, Yus Listiawan, stated that the institution received a donation of packaged rice on Sunday (21/6). Yus explained that the rice was subsequently fried, and the children later developed diarrhoea.
“The children fried it in the evening. It was fried, there was no aroma, no smell whatsoever indicating it was stale or anything. Then, they experienced diarrhoea, some before dawn on Monday,” Yus told reporters at Aisyiyah Muntilan General Hospital.
Yus said the suspected poisoning was discovered on Monday (22/6) afternoon. According to him, there are 14 children living at the orphanage.
Separately, Borobudur Police Chief AKP Anjar Prahasto confirmed the suspected poisoning incident. The event occurred around 4:45 PM Western Indonesian Time.
“On Monday (22/6), at approximately 4:45 PM, we visited the scene of the suspected food poisoning at the Daarul Hikmah Putri Orphanage in Jayan Hamlet, Borobudur Village,” Anjar said in a brief message.
