Another participant of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangun Indonesia (SPPI) programme for prospective managers of the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Cooperative (KNPM) has died during basic military training. This brings the total number of fatalities among candidates for the Merah Putih Village Cooperative and KNPM to three.

“It is true, the Ministry of Defence has received a report regarding the death of an SPPI KNMP programme participant for the year 2026, named Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang, who was undergoing education at the Pusbahasa Education Unit, Kodiklatau, Jakarta. The Ministry of Defence extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat General, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (24/6/2026).

Rico stated that Novia experienced health problems during the military training on Monday (22/6). She was subsequently rushed to the Air Force Hospital Dr. Esnawan Antariksa for medical treatment. Novia’s condition reportedly continued to deteriorate until she passed away on Tuesday (23/6). “Based on the medical examination results, the health condition she experienced was related to Tuberculosis (TB),” Rico said.

Rico added that all military training participants, including Novia, had undergone health tests to ensure physical readiness before commencing the education. His party had also provided medical treatment in accordance with applicable standards to participants who fell ill during the education period. Nevertheless, Rico assured that the Ministry of Defence would continue to evaluate the military training education system for the safety and security of all participants.

“Currently, the Ministry of Defence, together with the National Selection Committee and education providers, is continuously evaluating and strengthening health supervision for participants to ensure that their safety and health remain the top priority in the programme’s implementation,” Rico explained.

Previously, two participants of the SPPI Programme being prepared to become managers of the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative (KDKMP) and Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) died while undergoing military training. The two participants were named Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq. Rico explained that Anisa Muyassaroh died due to heat stroke while undergoing education at the Dodikjur Education Unit, Rindam VI/Mulawarman, Balikpapan. Meanwhile, Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq died while undergoing education at the Combat Training Centre Education Unit, Kodiklatad Baturaja. Yonanda experienced a decline in physical condition on 17 June 2026 and was then referred to a hospital for medical treatment. “Based on medical information, the person concerned was declared dead due to cardiac arrest,” he said.
