The process of evacuating Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Iran has entered its third phase. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) states that this phase involves repatriating 45 individuals to the homeland.

Director of WNI Protection at Kemenlu, Heni Hamidah, explained that this evacuation is a continuation of previous waves amid rising security situations following the outbreak of war between Iran and the United States since late February.

In this third phase, the WNI departed from Tehran on Sunday, 12 April 2026, via land route to Baku, Azerbaijan. They then continued their journey to Jakarta using a commercial flight on the Baku-Jakarta route.

“They will then arrive in Jakarta in three batches,” said Heni during a Kemenlu press conference broadcast on YouTube on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

The first batch consists of 14 people and arrived in Indonesia on 14 April 2026. Meanwhile, the second and third batches each number 9 people. They arrived sequentially on 15 and 16 April at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

The remainder are Indonesian citizens working as ship crew members who are still in Baku, Azerbaijan. “There are still 13 crew members whom we are accommodating in Baku awaiting the next flight,” Heni stated.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, Heni said, the WNI successfully evacuated from Iran will be handed over to social services and provincial liaison bodies for the process of returning to their respective home regions.

Meanwhile, as of now, there are still 236 WNI remaining in Iran. The majority of them are students or university students. The rest are migrant workers and expatriates who are married to Iranian citizens.
