Thieves make off with three cars

DEPOK: A gang of robbers have stolen three cars over the last five days in two subdistricts in Depok.

The robbers are armed with sharp weapons and guns, and are considered dangerous.

The latest incident took place on Monday at about 2 a.m. when five robbers broke into a house in Cilakap village, Cimanggis district. The gang threatened the owner of the house, Parman, and his family with machetes before making off with a Kijang minivan, Rp 5 million (US$588.24) in cash, 150 grams of gold jewelry and a cellular phone.

Last Thursday, six robbers broke into a house in Sukamaju subdistrict, Cimanggis district, in the early morning. They shot the owner of the house in the leg when he attempted to resist them, before fleeing a car, a cellular phone and Rp 2 million in cash.

At about 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, a man filed a police report after his car was stolen from in front of the Al-Anwar Mosque in Gandul subdistrict, Limo district.

Cimanggis Police chief Adj. Comr. Sumaryo said his officers were searching for the robbers.

"We are still collecting information from the victims and looking for witnesses. We suspect that the robbers are members of an auto theft syndicate," he said. -- JP
