Thieves loot home of ex-army boss

YOGYAKARTA: Thieves broke into the house of former Army chief Gen. (Ret.) Subagyo Hadisiswoyo in the Griya Puri Gejayan Indah I housing complex in Yogyakarta on the eve of Idul Fitri.

The thieves, who struck on Sunday night when Muslims were preparing for Idul Fitri prayers, stole Rp 1.6 billion worth of property.

Suhartono, a security guard at the house, said he found out about the incident about 05:00 a.m. when it was his turn to patrol the home located at Block F/21.

He said the thieves made off with electronic equipment, such as a television, a camera, a video tape, and several other valuable items including paintings.

"The police are intensively investigating the case to find the culprits," Suhartono said. --Antara
